Whale Huys Guest House

Whale huys is a stunning self-catering guesthouse located on the dramatic southwestern Cape coastline, near the whale watching towns of Hermanus and Gansbaai. Perched right on the cliffs of De Kelders, this property boasts the most breath-taking panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and, on the far side of the bay, the sweeping arm of the Cape Peninsula.

Genius Web Solution was approached by the owner of the Whale huys guesthouse to help get its website more traffic and more interest from both local (South African) and overseas travellers. The goal was to make sure that Whale huys had a steady stream of visitors all year round: something that, given the stunning pictures of the property, really shouldn’t be hard to do in theory! There was also an emphasis on attracting overseas visitors, so the site had to do the property full justice and be able to compete for top rankings on global search engine results pages.

Our first task was to take the existing website and redevelop it to look a lot more sophisticated, aesthetically pleasing, functional and easy to navigate, as well as far more Search Engine Optimization (SEO) friendly. We took all the existing content off the site and subjected it to a rigorous editorial overhaul, making sure to add plenty of descriptions to help potential guests really visualise the place. We even sent our content writer, Thea Beckman, to spend the weekend there with friends so that she could come back bursting with content ideas and a glowing account of her experiences!

In addition to the website redevelopment and content overhaul, we channeled a lot of effort into drastically improving the Whale huys website’s SEO compliance and ratings. Today, the website looks beautiful, is easy to navigate and really gives visitors an accurate understanding of how special and stunning the property is, although, to be perfectly honest, not even the most skilfully written words could convey how gorgeous Whale huys is.
